Ministries

We believe that the members of our church are the ministers of the gospel.  In other words, our members are responsible for the mission of the church.  The Congregational Church of Somersville has five broad emphases for its mission:

Members of our church engage in all aspects of these ministries.

1.) Worship and Enjoy God
For example, we celebrate that many members choose to participate actively in leading worship through liturgy and song.  To learn more about our worship, please visit our worship page.

2.) Proclaim Good News
We also try to proclaim good news to a world that is often sick in spirit, discouraged by conflict, hardship, helplessness or boredom.  The sizeable public events on our Congregational Green, such as a Heifer International Fair to raise awareness of their good work or the Field of Flags memorial to honor the sacrifice of our servicemen and women are instances of our efforts to proclaim the good news with which we have been entrusted.  We are currently working on ways to develop our public voice of faith even more strongly.

3.) Grow in Faith
Members support our growth in faith through an active Christian education program.  Numerous people participate in leading Christian education events for both children and adults.  In addition to weekly Sunday school for kids and adult Bible study, we have topical monthly meetings for adults, a Vacation Bible School program, and other special activities.

4.) Help Those in Need
It is important for us to try to be the loving hands and feet of Christ to those less fortunate than us.  We very actively support several local, national, and international organizations through our time, talent and donations.  Many are local agencies, such as the Cornerstone Soup Kitchen or My Sister's Place battered women's shelter.  Others are national or international organizations vetted for their faithful and efficient stewardship of our contributions.  Several of our mission partners are listed on our links page.

5.) Be in Christian Fellowship with One Another
We also believe we have an important ministry to build one another up through Christian fellowship.  We not only share in frequent potluck dinners together, but we have a very warm time of fellowship in our social hall following each service.  Through prayer for each other and kind words and actions shown to one another, we intend build on the bonds forged here in order to strengthen each other for the work God calls us to do.

There is a place for you at the Congregational Church of Somersville.
We are always looking for more partners in ministry!
